PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Common Core Reading Informational Text Activities and Assessment

Prepare your students for the new Common Core assessments, like PARCC and TNReady, with this packet. This product contains a variety of resources perfect for teachers looking to incorporate content-based close reading in their literature or social studies classroom. Included are five Common Core Standards-based activities to use with an original informational text about the election of 1860. Each activity includes a cover sheet, a skill explanation and student directions, a sorting mat, sorting cards, and an answer key. They can be used for independent, small group, or whole class practice. (Personally, I prefer to use them as centers to allow for time for small group instruction.) In addition, a set of extension activities is included for early finishers or extra practice. Finally, a text-based assessment is included to specifically test the skills covered in the activities. The assessment includes multiple-choice, free response, and constructed answer questions in order to prepare students for the new Common Core-aligned tests.
