This historical investigation packet will engage your students in the examination of various contemporary reactions to Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. The students will look at primary sources that revolve around three guiding questions:

1. What immediate effects does the Emancipation Proclamation have on slaves?
2. Is the Emancipation Proclamation constitutional?
3. What are major criticisms of the Emancipation Proclamation?

In the assessment section of this historical investigation students are asked to use the evidence from primary sources and their own background knowledge to write a reflection documenting their own reaction to the Emancipation Proclamation. In other words, your students will create and defend an independent statement (claim) focusing on the effectiveness of the Emancipation Proclamation, its constitutionality, and any criticism/praise they might have.

Save money by purchasing this Abraham Lincoln Historical Investigations Bundle.
