In preparing to teach freshman for the first time in may years, I cracked in to William Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet. While this is among one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, and while I enjoy teaching drama, I found the version presented in the text book to be inaccessible. So I got to work creating a side-by-side version of Romeo and Juliet with the text on the left and guiding questions and activities on the right. In an effort to make the text more accessible for students, I eliminated some scenes, some inappropriate humor, changed some language, and deleted some portions. The questions and activities included cover a variety of skills, including making inferences, connections, and predictions. I included content-specific questions about plot structure, characterization, and vocabulary.

Teachers can try out this text with the free Prologue. Or teachers can purchase each act individually. I have also created a bundle of all 5 acts, the prologue, and 12 *bundle* exclusive writing prompts and a rubric. Each part is available in .pdf and as a Google Slides presentation. I have to admit that when I learned I would be teaching freshman again, I was nervous, but putting this set together reminded me how much I enjoy ninth grade! I am ready to dive in and start this year. I hope you enjoy using this as much as I enjoyed designing it! Let me know how it works for you!

But wait! You can purchase each act of Romeo and Juliet for $5, or you can purchase the entire bundle for $20, essentially getting one act for free. Plus, the bundle includes 12 exclusive writing prompts! In this bundle, you will find 120+ slides and 200+ questions!
