Students may be absent from school for a variety of reasons. Not having a reliable alarm; unknown home responsibilities preventing them from coming to school on time every day; students facing bullying on their walk to school; or many other possibilities that are affecting their ability to succeed.
These “Absent Letters” allow students the opportunity for self-reflection, as well as shed some light on the challenges they may face outside of school. These letters are designed for K-6th grades in mind, and can be used by classroom teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, administration, or anyone else who would like to help a student express their thoughts and worries about attending school frequently and on time. The Absent Letters are just one step towards working with students to understand where they are coming from, and help make changes and plan for their success.
Credit for the idea behind these Absent Letters goes to my school’s amazing guidance counselor, Samantha Uribe, who allowed me to create this product and share it with the TpT community! We hope that they are useful tools in your school. :)
