I have a "while you were out" board in the front of my classroom. I have a folder on the bulletin board with each day of the week and when a student is absent I just drop the item they missed in that folder and write their name on it. Under that board I have a table with a binder and I call it the "While you were out binder". When a student is absent I also put the title of what they missed in the binder and the date missed. When the student comes back this is what they sign saying that they received the work and they must put the due date in the binder as well. I have found that this holds the student accountable and gives me proof of what is absent work and what is really late work.
