In this scavenger hunt, students will work in groups and travel to five stations. There will be an absolute value equation to solve at each station. Students will solve the equation and match the solution with the appropriate letter. After having solved all the equations, students will unscramble letters to solve the riddle. (“Maine”, since the slogan of Maine is “Vacation Land”.
This activity will help students to persevere and review solving absolute value equations, including special cases.
Because this station activity has only 5 equations, the teacher can consider putting multiple copies of the station activity around the classroom.... for example, a pink set, a yellow set, a green set, etc.
