Product Description

This card set has 16 graphs of absolute value functions and four task cards that ask students to analyze the functions. Tasks include identifying the equation of the graph, the attributes of the graph, including vertex, intercepts, domain, and range and transformation based on the parent function y = |x|.

Common Core Math standards that are addressed include:

CCSS.Math.Content.HSA-REI.D.11 Explain why the x-coordinates of the points where the graphs of the equations y = f(x) and y = g(x) intersect are the solutions of the equation f(x) = g(x); find the solutions approximately, e.g., using technology to graph the functions, make tables of values, or find successive approximations. Include cases where f(x) and/or g(x) are linear, polynomial, rational, absolute value, exponential, and logarithmic functions.★

Experiment with cases and illustrate an explanation of the effects on the graph using technology. Include recognizing even and odd functions from their graphs and algebraic expressions for them.

Use the cards to categorize graphs, analyze the graphs, write equations, and describe transformations. The graphs will work well with several lessons in the typical unit on Absolute Value Functions.
