This SmartBoard File teaches students about absolute value using a scenario of "Travis" jumping on a trampoline. The goal is to build understanding of absolute value in a context and real life example. This is designed for a 6th grade classroom but could be modified and used for grades 4-8.
While this is a SmartBoard file, it is easy to print the slides to quickly create a handout for your students to use in class. Students will graph a table to understand absolute value. Since it is a SmartBoard file, students will be engaged and will love coming up to the interactive whiteboard to show their work.
Included in the file are answer keys along with notes to the teacher about how to guide the lesson. At the end of the lesson, there is a second scenario where students will apply what they learned. You can use this as a formative assessment or homework assignment to assess their understanding.
