Abstract Art is a difficult concept to grasp, but this interactive 2 day lesson plan will introduce young students to the concept of non-representational art. Elementary students are able to identify the shapes and colors used in Abstract Art when they see examples. After they see examples of Wassily Kandinsky’s paintings, this can inspire them to create their own original artwork.
This downloadable zip file includes a 2 page PDF lesson plan with detailed instructions on how to introduce elementary students to Abstract Art. This file also includes a very short PowerPoint to share with students so they can make observations about Wassily Kandinsky’s paintings. Furthermore, the lesson plan includes directions on how to instruct students to create their own non-representational art with crayons and paint.
