Recognizing abstract nouns is ESSENTIAL for TRUE UNDERSTANDING
of nouns. These are the kind that always confuse students! This abstract noun activity provides an opportunity for students to use their creativity and imagination while learning about abstract nouns.
Each student will design his/her own abstract noun jar. The jar might be a jar of happiness, memories, creativity, etc. This activity works well with drawings or collages of magazine cut-outs (samples of both are included). Students also complete a writing activity explaining what is contained inside their jars and why those images symbolize the abstract nouns of their choice.
Included pages are:
• Directions and overview
• Abstract noun list for reference
• Sample of drawn jar
• Sample of collage jar
• 3D jar idea page
• Four different jar choices (blackline)
• Writing page
• Sample of completed writing page
