This lesson livens up the typically boring parts of speech lesson by asking students to be silly and use their creativity. The lesson includes a fill-in-the-blank tale about a hapless knight and his unfortunate encounter with a dragon.
In addition to reviewing the parts of speech, this activity is a great companion to Lewis Carroll's poem Jabberwocky.
I chose to create this lesson after realizing students often try to identify parts of speech based on the word alone as opposed to how it functions in the sentence. Using absurd words (or nonsense words) is the perfect opportunity to encourage students to identify parts of speech the correct way.
In addition to the answer key, I have included both a color copy and a black and white copy of the assignment.
