These posters have worked wonders with my ESOL students, and I hope they will help you and your students, too! By teaching these conversational tools, I have seen my students transform into amazing conversationalists. Our group discussions on literature, nonfiction texts, and current events have become much more engaging and richer now that my students know when and how to use these sentence starters and sentence frames. In this set are eight colorful but easy-to-read posters that give sentence starters or sentence frames for the following conversational moves: asking for clarification, asking others, building on, challenging, eliciting higher-order thinking, interrupting politely, stating an opinion, and paraphrasing. These charts can be printed, laminated, and put on the wall near your work table with small groups. You also get a smaller student version that students can keep in their interactive notebooks for handy reference.
