This set of Academic Language Frames is adapted from the findings of the Sweetwater High School District and the research of Kate Kinsella. These language frames will support your students as they formulate sentences orally or in writing. It provides a scaffold to "FRAME" their thinking. Print the posters out and use them during direct instruction to provide students with EXACTLY what you want them to write. These frames are good for ALL children, but English Language Learners will find them to be most helpful. You can begin with these frames and then slowly remove the supports, providing more control for the students. In other words, a gradual release. These frames are also excellent for students who simply have low language. Many times children struggle with exactly what we want them to say. This will help them out immensely and hopefully provide a good tool as they become stronger students.
