Product Description
Academic Language Lesson {Compare}

I have been teaching Academic Language in my class since the first day of school. It is so important to teach your students how to use Academic Language appropriately and what each word explicitly means.

This product can help you do just that!

Included in this download you will find:
Each download has a PowerPoint lesson (about 21 slides) geared toward an Academic Language word. The lesson takes about 30-40 minutes to complete. Use the “notes” section of the PPT to see specific teaching ideas tailored to each word lesson. The lesson is in a Direct Instruction format.

There are five types of posters in each download. One poster has the word, definition, and example sentence. Another poster choice is just the word and definition. The third poster choice is the word and the example sentence. The fourth poster choice is the word and the sentence frame. The last poster choice is the word, definition, and sentence frame. If the poster choice has a dotted line, just cut on the dotted line. You can print these on bright colored paper or cardstock, and laminate for durability.

Academic Language tickets are quick assessment tools, which also help students practice their use of the Academic Language word. Three tickets are on one page. It includes the definition, example sentence, and sentence frame. You can use them for morning work, a ticket out the door, or as an assessment tool.

This paper is for use during the lesson, and it can be cut out after the lesson and glued into Academic Language notebooks. It contains the same chart that is used during the lesson. Students can add their cutouts for each word lesson. By the end of the year, they’ll have a dictionary like Academic Language notebook, filled with Academic Language words.

The How-to-Guide PDF explains each aspect of the lesson in a general format. It explains the wording found in the PPT and gives a general explanation the slides. For the specific teaching guide, look to the “notes” section of the PPT.
