This carousel activity consists of 10 rounds or stations. Each round has students interact with academic vocabulary and use their critical thinking skills.
Four of these stations are customizable to include the vocabulary you have been working on in class, however, below are some suggestions.
1. alike, similar, both, the same
4. analyze, evaluate, determine, copy
5. whereas, however, on the other hand, but
7. prefer, enjoy, believe, think
In pairs or small groups, students can have 5-7 minutes at each station. The posters, which should be hung around the room, are accompanied by a student notes packet. The notes packet is specifically designed to help students organize their information and capture their thinking without having to create their own system. Also, already numbered and set up, it makes it easier to assess.
I have had some amazing critical thinking! The way the students look at and evaluate the vocabulary is sometimes different than what I originally intended, but if they can justify their response, it shows how deep their thinking goes!
It could be easily changed to accommodate a math, science, or social studies review or assessment.
