This product is one lesson out of 24 academic vocabulary lessons. The project is a technology-based project which utilizes web-based, user friendly presentation software. Lessons are highly interactive, motivating, and engaging; the lessons bring words to life, put terms in context, create opportunities to think-pair-share and use critical thinking skills, incorporates age-appropriate, interesting topics for students in high-risk groups who have great difficulty acquiring academic vocabulary. Majority of lessons also include video.
The presentation guide’s direct instruction in academic vocabulary. Presentation opens with four words: check for understanding. Instruction introduces word, part of speech, syllabication (clap out), and Spanish cognate. The instruction moves through word family, synonyms, definitions, visuals/video, and in class practice; many opportunities to use critical thinking skills as well as think-pair-share activities.
Use with Academic Vocabulary Organizer (same organizer used in presentation) for optimum student learning! Available in pdf file or “fillable” form (Word doc).
