Hands on group/pair activity - especially good for those who are English Language Learners. Students create categories and complete word sort. Once complete, must respond as to why the word, definition, visual example or sentence stem belongs in the said category. All students participate adding one card to the sort at a time and explain why they selected the category. Utilizes higher order thinking skills and creates opportunities for English language learners to work on speaking standards. Three pages. Students LOVE the sorts. Especially fun at four week review!
