Character Education is a major part of my guidance curriculum each year. Teaching the character traits to kids is so vital to their long-term growth and success.
This is a guidance / character ed lesson about accepting "no" for an answer instead of arguing and throwing a fit. It is based on the book, "I Just Don't Like the Sound of NO" by Julia Cook. It introduces a four-step method that you can teach to the children to assist them in joining the "Say YES to NO" Club.
This lesson includes links to the video of the book being read aloud (10 min) as well as 3 other short videos that reinforce the four-step process of accepting "NO" for an answer. That is a collection of 4 videos that you can use as best suits your needs.
Using this presentation for your guidance lesson, you can easily help students to understand a variety of concepts related to character education. This lesson teaches:
This presentation has 15 slides and includes a link to a video of the book, "I Just Don't Like the Sound of NO!", being read aloud with photos of the pages. The video runs approximately 10 minutes.
Also included to help students participate in the lesson as well as help to reinforce the concepts that are taught is a scenario activity card sheet that can be copied and pasted into a Word document and printed on tag board as well as a STAR master sheet that can be used to create your OWN "Say YES to NO" Club. Or you can purchase the Word version of the worksheet separately, if you prefer.
I would schedule 30-45 minutes for this lesson and activity.
The PowerPoint is customizable and has a master slide that can be copied to make your own slides to personalize the lesson for your students and teaching style. The presentation includes both animations and transitions to hold your students' interest. Make your lesson come alive for your students and help them to connect to the concept in a fun way that will help them to remember the important lessons you need for them to remember.
