Sentence starters (there are 24 total) to get students talking respectfully and taking ownership of dialogue in the classroom whether in small groups or whole class! Accountability talk or talking with respect. Either way, get students to think about things differently. These statements work great with Webb's Depth of Knowledge as well the Common Core ELA Speaking and Listening anchor standards!
These are designed to be hung in the classroom for students to reference during group discussions, but they can be used in many different ways! Give groups a few sentence starters that they have to use during their discussions, or keep a few sets to give groups whole sets. Students can also refer to them during independent work to help them answer guided reading questions. These could be beneficial in scaffolding low level readers to help give them support as they answer questions. However you choose to use them, I'm sure they'll be a great asset in your students' tool boxes!
