This rubric has three levels: Level 1 is the basic academic conversation where students show that they are listening and responding using the Accountable Talk Stems as transitions between participants. Level 2 is a slightly higher level where students paraphrase, cite specific portions of text and elaborate on one another's thinking. Level 3 is very challenging where students have to question what the author left out of the text, investigate unsupported claims and even make some hypothetical scenarios.
Here is a student example of students the rubric for an Accountable Talk on Galapagos Turtles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shNzU-bHBhE
