Use the stems to help your students become better speakers and listeners!
Accountable Talk Stems are a great way to get your students into the habit ot listening to each other and responding in a meaningful way. Being able to conduct and participate in group discussions is one of the Common Core Standards for Speaking and Listening.
Print the talk stems on one color paper, and the question stems on another- you can laminate and display the images, or make copies for your students. In my classroom, the stems are laminated and posted with funtack on my chalkboard. During accountable talk or team talk routines, students get to choose some stems to use in their conversations. Our reward system is the class dojo system, so when students use an accountable talk stem they get a positive dojo point!
