This depreciation activity was created to get students up and out of their seats. I purchased picture frames (cheap ones) and put a task in each frame. We placed the tasks all around the room (or the library if you can schedule a different location). Students moved around to complete each task during each round.
This activity is a great reinforcement activity/project to use after straight-line depreciation is discussed.
Students will need to sort items purchased into three categories: store equipment, office equipment, and warehouse equipment.
Round 1 includes purchasing equipment and making journal entries in the Cash Payments journal.
Round 2 has student complete a chart calculating depreciation for the current year.
Round 3 concludes with students creating the adjusting entries for all three types of equipment based on current year depreciation amounts.
