This is a case of a small business owner setting up a Golf Academy at the local golf course. The case introduces Fraser and the investment he made in starting his business. The case proceeds through the first month of operations. Students are provided with an excel file that contains the Chart of Accounts, the journal entries sheet, the ledger, worksheet, and financial statement files. They proceed by journalizing the transactions, posting to the ledger, creating a trial balance, perform adjusting entries and producing an income statement, retained earning statement and balance sheet for Fraser's Academy.
The case is in an excel format but and works well in class if all students have access to computers.The class can do it by hand if you copy the excel files into word and print off a set of accounting records.
P.S. You can change the name of the Golf club to that of a local golf club in your area. You can also shorten the case by eliminating some of the sales transactions. Make the changes in the master copy excel file and save under a new name.
