This is an excellent introductory acids and bases lab activity that can be completed in introductory science courses or as a start to an acids and bases unit in high school Chemistry.
The lab activity is composed of three parts:
1. testing solutions using litmus paper and pH paper
2. using simple lab techniques to make an acidic solution and a basic solution and demonstrate the neutralization process
3. using indicators to narrow down the pH range of an unknown solution
Each section includes questions targeted at determining if learning has taken place. An answer key is provided that includes tips for successful completion of the lab activity. The document can be modified to fit your chemical inventory supply.
