This lesson makes use of the current controversy involving the Seattle Seahawks Richard Sherman's post-game comments after last week's NFC Championship game. The lesson's objective is to show students how to use the PRO/CON method of structuring an essay. It is not enough to acknowledge the opposition; you need to dispose of it. In this PowerPoint, embedded clips of Sherman's "rant" are included along with sample thesis statements defending and challenging his actions after the game. I also demonstrate how to properly acknowledge the opposition in a thesis statement by again using sample theses about this controversy.
