For students who are just learning letters, place just a few acorns on the table for them to complete. For students who are ready, you can use all of the acorns at one time. Place the desired pieces (or the container) on the table. Have students match the top acorn piece (programmed with a capital and lower-case letter) to the correct bottom acorn piece that contains the picture that begins with that letter. For example, students will match the acorn piece with the letter Aa to the acorn piece with the apple.
This activity corresponds with Common Core Standard K.RF.3a: Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or many of the most frequent sound for each consonant.
