Here's what's included in your purchase:
*26 uppercase acorns with matching pictures in color
*26 lowercase acorns with matching pictures in color
*26 upper and lowercase with matching pictures in black and white
* 1 recording sheet for center work
This beginning sound match can be used as a center, a small group activity, a large group activity, or home practice. Here are some ideas for how to use them:
As an independent learning center:
*Provide students with select letters and their matching pictures. (Providing all the letters at once may be overwhelming.)
*Students can make matches in a tray or in a pocket chart.
*Have students use the recording sheet to practice writing their letters and drawing their own picture of something that starts with that letter. You may want to tell them to choose a picture that is different than the one provided in the center.
As a small group activity:
*These can be used in a small group the same way they are used in an independent center, but with more teacher support.
*Or, place magnets on the back of the pieces, and allow students to match them on a cookie sheet.
As a large group activity:
*Put felt, sandpaper, or Velcro on the back of the pieces and have students match the pieces on the felt board. (Again, it may be easier to use only a small group of letters at first.)
*Or, give each student one half of an acorn, then tell them to get up and look for their partner with the matching half. (For example, the student with the “D” needs to find the student with the picture of the dog.) Tell them to stand by their partner when they find him/her. After talking about the sounds and pictures, collect all the pieces and do it over again.
*The black and white version of these acorns is perfect for copying on colored paper and sending home for extra practice.
