This is a brief study of the 50 United States, including Washington D.C., that is meant for 1st through 4th grades. Also incorporated into this study is the collection of the state quarters.
There is one page for each state that includes a picture of the state flag, an outline of the state and questions to be answered by the student researching online (websites are recommended in the study). Questions range from the year of statehood, to bordering states, to top agricultural products, etc. This is an excellent way for students to gain knowledge about each state while enhancing their online/internet skills.
States can be introduced in any order. When I am using this study, I prefer to start in the northwest corner (Washington) and work our way south and east, taking 1 or 2 states at a time. Each time we work on this, I give a blank US Map outline (links included in study) and we label the states we have already learned, as well as adding in the new states that we will be learning that day. Upon completion of the study, your student should have a knowledge of US Geography by state, as well as a little background information about each state.
