Act 1 of Romeo and Juliet sets the tone for the entire play. I really focus on the details of the exposition so that my students have a good understanding of the characters, setting, and conflict before moving on to subsequent acts.
The Act 1 reading guide contains anticipatory questions to get students thinking about debatable aspects of the play, a character chart to keep them organized, comprehension and analysis questions to guide their thinking, figurative language and literary term identification to enrich their reading experience, and open-ended response questions to reflect on what you have read and discussed together.
This Romeo and Juliet Act 1 reading guide is aligned with numerous common core standards and is wonderful for students who appreciate a challenge as it will ask them to think deeply about what they are reading.
***This reading guide is directly aligned with my Act-by-Act Figurative Language and Literary Terms resource
