This is a conversational unit for more advanced students who feel comfortable with basic conversational situations with only a small amount of time for preparation.
It is an Indiana Jones/James Bond hybrid made up to satisfy my students’ demands for a sequel to the Murder Mystery they did the year before.
This unit has been used in the classroom for the past six years, both in a traditional 50-minute class period, and as a change-of-pace activity on a 90-minute block schedule. It is designed to be used during one grading period, but could be easily condensed if necessary.
It is consistently mentioned as a favorite activity in student evaluations, both in the “most useful” and “most fun” categories.
These activities simulate everyday conversational situations, and could easily be used to augment a student’s portfolio.
Each unit includes instructions to the teacher, a rubric that should be duplicated for students, and a handout (or two) to use for each.
