Fast fiction is a fun and quick way to actively introduce your students to the main elements of storytelling. Students learn best when they can apply the knowledge that you are teaching them. This activity prompts them to write setting, characters, rising action, climax, and resolution so that when they are finished at the end of one class period they have their own action/adventure story.
This lesson includes a PowerPoint with a guide to brainstorming as a class and timed slides for writing their story.
This prompt takes place on a plane and can be used as a fun Thanksgiving / Christmas creative writing activity by having your students use those times of year to explain their reason for traveling and encouraging them to set the scene with holiday adjectives and adverbs. However, this activity can be used any time during the year. I find my students are always eager to share their stories afterwards.
