Do you have students on your caseload who struggle grasping the concepts of "before" and "after" when presented within a direction? Action Kids Temporal Directions is a following directions activity that targets comprehension of two-step verbal directions containing these tricky, abstract concepts. Before and after directions are presented in both an expected order (1-2) and an inverted order (2-1). This activity contains visual mats that help support the student's comprehension of the correct sequence based on the type of direction presented.
This activity includes:
- 20 two-step temporal directions (5 before 1-2 order, 5 before 2-1 order, 5 after 1-2 order, 5 after 2-1 order) [pages 3-4]
- Data sheet [page 5]
- Visual support mats [pages 6-9]
- 15 color cards depicting common gross-motor actions [pages 10-11]
- 15 B&W cards depicting common gross-motor actions [pages 12-13]
Mix it up! Present the verbal directions contained within this activity or have your students create their own directions by choosing action cards at random. Have your students be the teacher and present directions to their peers.
