Active Listening- Role Playing/Skit Writing Activity- "A Pleasant Confrontation"
This is a fun role play activity in which students have the opportunity to demonstrate proper active listening skills. Students will be given a workplace situation between an employee and a manager. In brief, the employee has been demonstrating a very poor work ethic and the manager needs to confront the employee. Students will write a skit between the two and it must display active listening skills. The students will then perform the skit demonstrating active listening skills.
This download contains detailed directions about the situation they are going to be writing and performing a skit about and in detail describes the activity. It also fully discusses what active listening includes: ex. making direct eye contact, nodding occasionally to show you are interested, not interrupting, asking questions, etc. On the back side of the handout is a very detailed evaluation sheet for you to use to grade their presentation and skit.
This is an excellent activity to do for a unit on active listening.
