This is a modified active reading strategy that I have found very helpful. It allows students to engage the text on a much deeper level. Retention and enjoyment levels rise for students, and the teacher as well. The topics should be pre-chosen by the teacher to provide the students with a "purpose" for their reading. The activity works best if you model the strategy first using an easy read, such an article or short text. Pick 2 or 3 topics from the text, and go over it as a class, modeling each step of the process, and then they are off to the races, reading actively and retaining much more!
