This critical thinking exercise can be used with any text and is designed to teach students to become independent, active readers.
Post-it notes are such an effective tool for analyzing literature, but often students don’t know how to use them well. Many come to class with texts laden down with colorful post-its, but then they can’t remember why they are there. These exercises teach them how to take better notes and ask them to do a lot of critical thinking on their own and with their classmates.
