This reading activity is about Shakira and the humanitarian work that she has done, especially for children. If you are doing a unit either on music or citizenship, this will be a great, authentic addition to your plans!
Students read the article (which can be found at the following website: http://unicef.cl/web/embajadora-de-unicef-shakira-visita-chile-para-participar-en-multitudinario-concierto/) and complete a series of activities, including:
-Answering pre-reading questions
-Identifying examples of different grammatical concepts from the article
-Using the context of the article to define new words
-Answering comprehension questions
There is also an optional webquest activity, in which students visit the website of Shakira's foundation, Pies Descalzos, and search for specific information about the foundation.
Finally, there are extension/analysis questions for students to answer that get them thinking about what they have read and how they could apply it to their own communities.
This activity is customizable to meet your particular needs!
