"Tim O'Toole and the Wee Folk" by Gerald McDermott is one of my favorite books for St. Patrick's Day. (AR Level 4.5, Lexile 610L) The resources included are perfect to hand out after reading the story, but can also be used in booklet form (I've included a cover page) for students to work on independently.
I like to differentiate during small-group reading instruction, and this resource is a great way to do so- I make half-sheet copies for kids working on particular skills, provide the book for students to partner read, and check their work as they go along. With several groups going at the same time I can be sure every child is working toward success.
There are 4 reading activity pages, including character comparison (Venn Diagram), questions, personal reflection, and a cut/paste choose-your-own-questions hat. There is also an addition/subtraction to 20 word problem sheet as a bonus, as well as a cover page if you wish to use the pages as a booklet.
