Instructions: Retell the story using four images and four quotes. The images can be actual events or your own interpretation of the events. We will have four categories for competition: Best Representation of Conflicts, Best Use of Imagery, Best Summary, Best Artistic Representation.
This is a one page handout with 4 boxes for visual representations and for 4 quotes from the text under each image.
I have used this strategy for novels, plays, short stories, memoirs, and some pieces of nonfiction.
Students have about 20 minutes to create their visual story, then I tape them up in the hallway outside my classroom, and students vote by category. I have used colored sticky dots for voting, as well as secret ballots. You can change the four categories for voting.
This is a doc, for easy editing. Also, this activity is great for textual engagement and for showing off student work.
