In this activity, students act out a scenario during which they must decide what type of power plant their town will invest in. Students will draw cards to determine their character and must present the point of view of the character described. Some characters have strong feelings for or against a fossil fuel, while others’ views are still open for discussion. Through this activity, students will consider in depth the reasons why we have not transitioned to a carbon neutral economy despite the dangers posed by climate change. Deciding Our Energy Future: Renewable Resources follows this activity and adds to the equation renewable energy sources like geothermal, hydropower, solar, and wind energy.
