Activity packet for the short story "Los chicos" by Ana María Matute. I like to pre-teach the vocabulary prior to reading the story with the class. The packet contains vocabulary building activities. After reading the story, students will work on the last part of the packet for a brief biography of the author as well as reading comprehension questions.
Our textbook includes a brief biography for the author but if your textbook does not have it or if you're printing the story from the internet, here's a link for a biography. You can print it and have students read it aloud with the class or quietly with a partner:

This is a great teachable moment for a discussion of bullying since it's one of the themes in the story. Students afterwards discuss bullying issues. Great way to include character education in the lesson.
