This is an activity that can be done with any unit in class, but I have found this to be very effective with pictures from the Vietnam War. This includes:
1. A two-sided graphic organizer that has questions for 6 individual pictures. (Students will have to analyze the photos with this chart...not just a quick glance.)
2. Six famous high quality pictures that I use in class with this chart. [Picture 1: Children running from their Napalmed village. Picture 2: South Vietnamese killing a Vietcong. Picture 3: Protestor putting a flower into a National Guard's rifle. Picture 4: Soldier Crying. Picture 5: Kent State student killed. Picture 6: My Lai Massacre (graphic picture - so I included another picture). Picture 6b: Students Non-violently protesting.]
This activity can be done different ways:
+ Individually - Students get a picture for 5-7 minutes and then pass it to the next person.
+ As a Class - Gallery walk around the room making observations and helping one another. (Students like this option best).
