Creativity in the Classroom
I created this activity ring specifically to cover the Common Core State Standards for Reading Literature for Grades 4 and 5
Make preparing for a literature lesson quick and easy! These are great to use with any novel. Many of the cards can be repeated on other days for different chapters of the same book.
Print out a class set of cards and put them on rings. After reading a portion of any novel, give the rings to the students and have them choose 2 or 3 activities to complete for that day's reading.
You may even want to divide a set of the cards into 2 or more rings to pass out on different days to narrow the students' choices on any given day or tell them they cannot choose the same 2 or 3 activities every time. That way you can make sure that they eventually cover all of the standards.
For example: You could put the figurative language cards on one ring, the cards that can be used with multiple chapters on another, and the ones that can only be used once for a particular novel on another.
Alternatively, keep the cards loose so you can pass out only the particular activity or activities for your students to complete after the day's reading.
Just print on card stock, cut apart, punch holes where marked, and put on a ring or leave loose to hand out as you choose.
