"The Leprechaun Who Lost His Rainbow" by Sean Callahan is one of my favorite books for St. Patrick's Day. (AR Level 3.5, Lexile AD660L) The resources included are perfect to hand out after reading the story, but can also be used in booklet form (I've included a cover page) for students to work on independently.
I like to differentiate during small-group reading instruction, and this resource is a great way to do so- I make half-sheet copies for kids working on particular skills, provide the book for students to partner read, and check their work as they go along. With several groups going at the same time I can be sure every child is working toward success.
Activities include 6 pages of questions, character analysis, information recall, summarization, following directions, and personal reflection, plus bonus writing paper and a fraction review using rainbows. An additional page of extension ideas is also included.
