How it Works

1. Use it as a traditional Interactive Notebook.

2. Use it one slide at a time to compliment a particular lesson on adaptation.

3. Use it as independent work such as classroom work, project work, or even homework.

This Interactive Digital Notebook has been paired with Common Core State Standard for English Language Arts for grades 3 - 5 so that you can integrate it with Language Arts. All student slides are designed to have students research one particular aspect of adaptation (structural adaptations).

Additionally, each slide includes 1 HYPERLINK to a trusted, reliable, kid-friendly free site that the students can use for research and information gathering in conjunction with the print resources you provide. HYPERLINKS include one ENGLISH language and one SPANISH language website. There are also HYPERLINKS to a VIDEO to use for research. The HYPERLINKS and VIDEOS are for English and Spanish language videos.

Please make sure your district/school/classroom has access to SafeShare or YouTube.

The Interactive Digital Notebook includes 17 slides:

NGSS3-LS4-3
Construct an argument with evidence that in a particular habitat some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all. Examples of evidence could include needs and characteristics of the organisms and habitats involved. The organisms and their habitat make up a system in which the parts depend on each other.
NGSS3-LS3-2
Use evidence to support the explanation that traits can be influenced by the environment. Examples of the environment affecting a trait could include normally tall plants grown with insufficient water are stunted; and, a pet dog that is given too much food and little exercise may become overweight.
NGSS3-LS3-1

Patterns are the similarities and differences in traits shared between offspring and their parents, or among siblings. Emphasis is on organisms other than humans. Assessment does not include genetic mechanisms of inheritance and prediction of traits. Assessment is limited to non-human examples.
