How can a creature be perfectly suited to survive in its habitat?
In this project, students learn about adaptation, ecosystems, and habitats by designing a creature with adaptations to help it survive well in its habitat. First, they learn about adaptations in living creatures. Then, they create a "Super Rat" adapted to its predators, prey, and habitat. Finally, the students design a habitat and an imaginary creature. Students complete this project as a group and then present to the class.
As well as step-by-step directions for teachers and students, this project includes handouts, flip charts, videos, a Rank & Reason, a reflection, and a rubric.
This project is designed to have a structure compatible with implementing PBL in the classroom. NextLesson projects include certain key components that facilitate an authentic PBL experience.
