Included are two mini-projects that both have introductory activities.
These mini-projects are completed easily in class. The fish activity may take additional days. There is NO prep other than providing plain white paper.
Fish Design Mini-Project
Students first analyze three photos of fish and determine their adaptations and how the adaptations help the fish survive.
Students will design their own fish with adaptations including mouth, body shape and coloration of fish. Students can choose the remaining adaptations. Students are making up their own fish so they can be as creative as they want. Students do have to complete an adaptation explanation sheet. An easy-to-use rubric is provided.
New Species Activity
Students read about three environments and determine or create an animal that can live in those environments as well as what type of adaptation these animals have to survive.
Next, students write about their own environment, create and draw a new species that lives in the environment, and describe in detail the adaptations the new species has to survive in the environment.
