As a school-based occupational therapist, I regularly provide teachers and students with strategies to improve handwriting legibility. HOUSE-mouse Adapted Paper was designed to assist both general and special education students with building spatial planning skills for proper letter sizing, spacing, and use of writing lines through the use of specialized pictorial and verbal prompts. Many students lack the fine motor control necessary to easily transition from primary paper to standard notebook and/or college-ruled paper as occurs with increase in grade level. HOUSE-mouse Paper options #5-9 gradually reduce the height of writing boundaries. Options #5 and #6 have a box at the top for illustrations. Options #5 and #7 have vertical dividers to cue for spacing between letters/words, similar to graph paper. This is particularly helpful to assist left-handed students as well as low level readers to build spacing skills. Both color and black & white paper options have been included along with recommendations for use.
