Adapted Map Key Skills for special needs students in various grade levels. Students can learn the vocabulary, symbols, and meanings of what a map and map key are, as well as what the different symbols in a map key mean and how they can help find items on a map. Students can learn through a flip book and/or receptive id and by using a practice map; then show his/her knowledge with 2 assessment maps and a matching worksheet. This activity can be used as a supplement to a history unit or as a separate activity. This product can also be utilized for the Elementary History VAAP HS-G1 (SOL 1.4). The student will develop map skills by a) recognizing basic map symbols, including references to land, water, cities, and roads.
Suggested use: Use the vocabulary, symbol, & meanings pages to teach/review and/or use the cards for receptive id; use the How to read a map and directions to teach/review map key skills and then use 2 maps and matching worksheet for assessments as evidence.
