This adaptive paper is truly a one-of-a-kind resource! Its design is based on my years of experience and research as an occupational therapist in providing handwriting training to children of all ages and abilities. My unique adapted paper packet is broken into three important resources:
LETTER PRACTICE . . . WORD PRACTICE . . . and SENTENCE PRACTICE!
Adapted Paper - SENTENCE PRACTICE offers visual supports for children as they begin writing sentences. This specialty handwriting paper is suitable for kids with varied abilities and brings the writing lines to life! Children with fine motor, visual motor, or motor planning issues find this paper especially helpful. They work to follow cues for letter and word placement as they learn to write sentences. Laminate your favorite pages for repeated use!
5 Different Types of Paper:
1- Size-It-Right Handwriting Paper: This type of paper has several visual cues to help kids make tall letters and upper case letters tall, as well as make fall letters, like g, j, p, q, and y, fall below the writing line. What are these visual cues?
CLOUDS: Clouds look like actual objects too! Use clouds along the top of the writing space to help kids extend tall and upper case letters to the top.
BROWN below: Brown in the lower writing space helps kids imagine their fall letters stretching into the ground. Draw worms or bugs to bring this to life!
YELLOW below: Yellow in the lower writing space provides a bright visual cue for kids to attend to.
2- Space-It-Right Handwriting Paper: This specialty type of paper provides boxes on all the sheets. These boxes provide guidelines for kids – they place one letter in each box. This helps children to focus carefully on forming one letter at a time, teaching them that each letter deserves its own space!
3- Gray Bar Handwriting Paper: On the right side of this paper, there is a wide gray bar. This helps kids learn to switch lines when they get close to the end of the writing line. This is one of thefive “Handwriting Rules” in the Kids Master Skills handwriting program.
4- Drawing and Writing Paper: This paper offers kids the opportunity to draw a picture to accompany their writing. This addresses fine motor skill, planning, and adds meaning!
5- Handwriting Rules Paper: YA checklist is included at the top of this specialty handwriting paper. This provides kids with reminders to attend to these rules while writing and builds their ability to self-monitor their own work. The “Handwriting Rules” checklist includes the following:
•Did I . . . . Write on the line?
•Did I . . . . Make letters the same size?
•Did I . . . . Space words correctly?
•Did I . . . . Use capitals and periods?
**** All variations of this handwriting paper is available in three sizes: 1-inch, ¾ inch, and ½ inch ****
