Use this activity to build your student’s vocabulary and language usage, specifically the editing of writing by adding adverbs to adjectives. Have your students choose a sentence, read it aloud, say the adjectives, then discuss and choose which adverb best describes the adjective. Students can work individually, but pairs are more effective, as students can brainstorm more adverbs and determine a better description. This activity could also be used in a whole group setting where students rotate the cards, writing down each sentence in their notebooks or on a piece of paper.
Additional strategies to solidify understanding would be to have students circle, underline, or highlight adverbs and adjectives once they are written down.
